The wavelet methods provide avenues for proper understanding of real world problems. Keeping in view importance of wavelet tools, the Istanbul Commerce University (Turkey) had organized the First International Workshop on Applications of Wavelets to Real Word Problems during 17-18 July, 2005. A fairly good number of active researchers of the field participated in its deliberations, and the papers presented were published in the Proceeding of the Workshop. Encouraged by the success of the First Workshop, the second International Workshop will be held in Ýstanbul between 7 - 9  June, 2007. This series of workshops is intended to provide opportunity for interaction of scientists, engineers, planners, social scientists, agricultural scientists who are applying wavelets in their research. Mathematical studies are often aimed to analyze and visualize real world problems. Discussion on this theme during ICIAM2003 in Sydney, mooted the idea of holding workshop on wavelets. Due to one reason or the other, the first workshop could only be organized just after “Sampling Theory and Applications (SampTA 05)” Conference in Samsun. The first workshop was organized with the co-operation of The Scientific and Technical Research Council of Turkey (TÜBITAK), King Fahd University Petroleum and Minerals, Beykent and Istanbul Commerce Universities. Organizing Committee also received academic co-operation from Bogaziçi, Yildiz Technical, Marmara, Isik, Middle East Technical and Süleyman Demirel Universities and BU Kandilli Observatory Meteorology Laboratory. The organizers would like to express their gratitude to the Abdus Salam International Center for Theoretical Physics  (ICTP) which provides plenty of opportunities to meet and finalize their periodic activities. They are also very much obliged to ICTP, Trieste Italy where the first wavelet group was organized and co-operative studies were held in 2000, August 2006.

CHAIRPERSON’S MESSAGE

The “INTERNATIONAL WORKSHOP ON II APPLICATIONS OF WAVELETS TO REAL WORLD PROBLEMS” will be organized by the General Directorate of State Hydraulic Works (DSI), Anadolu BIL Professional School of Higher Education, Süleyman Demirel University. Wavelet analysis can provide a unique decomposition of time series in to signal and noise components. From the overall spectrum independent spectra can be extracted allowing the separate detection and monitoring of the real world problems. The workshop will discuss major issues of importance for integrated wavelet implementation, including development experiences world wide wavelet applications. We ask you to take advantage of this opportunity to share your experiences with the international workshop. We hope you will join us in ÝSTANBUL in June 2007 at this important workshop and benefit from the high level presentations, focused debate and exchange of information.

    CALL FOR PAPERS
    The papers accepted by the Scientific Committee for presentation in plenary, oral and poster sessions will be published in the Workshop Book. Its full text version (10 pages) will appear in a CD ROM. Workshop book and  CD ROM will be available to the participants at the Registration Desk before the Opening Ceremony of the Workshop.

    PAPER SUBMISSION
    Participants are invited to submit papers, coherent with the above said objectives and topics that will be published in the proceedings. Submit a 250 word summary (no figures or references) by March 31, 2007 to the e-mail address: tokgozlu@fef.sdu.edu.tr

    VENUE & LANGUAGE
    The workshop will be held at Ýstanbul, Turkey, and the language for both oral and poster presentations will be English.
